2000-2001 Private House, NR Drumnadrochit, Inverness-shire, Scotland for private clients:

Feasibility work and outline design for a private house on an isolated 8 acre site overlooking Loch Ness.

The site has outline consent for a " chalet bungalow ", granted conditionally by the Highland Council prior to site purchase by RLA's client. It is at present undeveloped but adjacent to an isolated hamlet of a few houses. The site is sloping, parts are wooded , and it is entirely private and serene. It has dramatic views overlooking Loch Ness and towards a panoramic view of the mountains on the SE side of the Loch.

RLA are currently working with the client to produce plans for a house of some 200-250 sq.m. that will be of a quality that will complement its setting, be hardwearing enough to survive the rigours of Highland winters, be buildable in an isolated area, and be sustainable in its use of materials and energy.

The project is being carefully planned and phased around the continuing operation of the existing staff and residents.

1998-2001, Cambridge Visitor Centre, for Quest:

(Click on photograph to view larger pictures)

Feasibility work, brief writing and outline design proposals for a visitor centre for various sites in and around the City of Cambridge, involving many sensitive planning issues including the affecting and protection of the City's historic heritage and environment.

RLA are working with Cambridge Quest to develop a much needed multi -function visitor centre in the Cambridge area. This is a substantial scheme, presently of some 10,000 sq. metres, to celebrate the richness of Cambridge's past present and future.

The Quest development will provide greater public access to and understanding of the City's scientific and cultural heritage, of the relationship between these and the City's new leading edge technologies and of the famous discoveries made in the City.

The RLA proposals for this scheme include a 75 metre high DNA Tower based around the double helical structure of the DNA Molecule, the subject of Watson and Crick's discovery in 1953.
