2000, Stand for Chris Marvell, Sculptor, at Chelsea Flower Show:

The brief for this small area of approx. 6.0
m x 6.0 m was to provide a backdrop to sculptures on display. An
area of shelter from either sun or rain was to be included. The
stand was to be demountable for future use at other shows.
The stand was awarded one of a handful of Royal
Horticultural Society Certificates of Merit for the outstanding
presentation of the contents, applicable to non-horticultural stands.

1999-2000,
Shawcroft Special School, Orpington, Kent, now renamed OakView for
Oakview Estates LTD:

Refurbishment and alteration work to the 1974
Special School building, former public authority ( ILEA) owned.
The site is located in the London Green Belt, within the curtilage
of a Listed Structure, in a woodland area covered by a Tree Preservation
Order. The 2500 sq.m. buildings are on the Local List of the Planning
Authority as being of architectural merit, having received an RIBA
award in 1975. The new proposed use for the site is for a medium
secure mental healthcare scheme for adolescents.
Richard Lyon and Associates provided feasibility
and pre contract detail design services, and obtained the listed
Building Consents required.

1996-97,
Wimpole and Clopton Wards and new Catering building at Kneesworth
House Hospital, Royston, Cambridgeshire for Partnerships in Care
LTD:

Major extensions to psychiatric wards within
grounds of a Grade II listed Building. The brief was to rationalise
and extend the existing medium secure wards within Holland House,
resulting in five smaller wards and a new central site catering
building, and to provide additional car parking.
Richard Lyon and Associates were appointed as
architects for the full RIBA Services, including handling all planning
issues.
Detail Planning consent was obtained for the
new buildings proposed.
Amongst special design features Richard Lyon
and Associates incorporated into the design for the new ward blocks
passive ventilation methods to improve fresh air flow through the
bedroom areas of the new wards.
During the building contracts for the new wards
the medium secure wards in Holland House remained fully in use,
and with the additional wards then open, the phased alteration work
could take place within Holland House with only one ward out of
use at any one time.
Contract Value £ 3.1 million. Contract Duration
11 months.

1996-97,
The Diana Princess of Wales Treatment Centre for Drug and Alcohol
Problems, Gimmingham, Norfolk, for ADAPT Ltd. ( Regd Charity ):

Major refurbishment of Grade II Listed, 19th
Century, former Mundesley TB Hospital, listed by reason of this
building being a rare surviving example of late 19th Century pre-fabricated
timber frame construction.
Listed Building consent was obtained for internal
alterations and improvements, and for refurbishment work to the
dilapidated glazed verandah.
Contract value circa £ 1 million. Contract Duration
34 weeks.
Adapt Ltd. engaged Richard Lyon and Associates
to carry out a feasibility scheme, prior to purchase of this site,
for conversion to form a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.
After a successful bid for the site, and after an extensive regional
fund raising campaign, the project proceeded.

1995,
Learning Disability Day Centre St. John's Diss, Norfolk, for Partnerships
in Care LTD:

This project was for the conversion of Grade
II listed dilapidated Victorian Stable building to form a patient
day centre and administrative offices new external works improvements,
including formation of new car park, in the grounds of Grade II
listed buildings.
Listed Building consent obtained for alterations
to the stable building and for the external works.
Contract Value £ 248 K, Contract Duration 27
weeks.

1993-97,
14 Flats at John Conder Court, Perne Road, Cambridge for the Cambridge
Housing Society LTD:

The site occupies a prominent position on the
ring road around Cambridge, being located on a corner and on a roundabout.
Surrounding the site are semi-detached houses dating from around
the 1930's.
The brief was to provide flats for elderly persons
in a non-sheltered scheme.
Richard Lyon and Associates undertook a feasibility
study for the site which, following site acquisition and de-contamination,
resulted in a two storey scheme providing fourteen flats in a mix
of ten 2 bedroom and four one bedroom units.
Contract Value £ 0.75 million, Contract Duration
47 weeks.

1993-94,
Redford Lodge Psychiatric Hospital, Church Street, Edmonton, London
N9 for Partnerships in Care LTD:

Redevelopment of former early 20th Century Nursing
Home to create new 65 bed medium secure psychiatric hospital. Part
of the site is within the Edmonton Conservation area, and the buildings
abut a Grade II Listed Terrrace property once occupied by Charles
Lamb.
Conservation Area Consents were obtained for
minor external alterations to the building fabric and new boundary
fencing.
Conservation Area and planning consents were
obtained for extensions to form staff dining facilities within an
inner courtyard, and for a new porte-cochere entrance canopy and
secure entrance fronting the access off Church St.
Listed Building Consent was obtained for improved
boundary fencing between the hospital and the neighbouring Listed
property.

1991-92,
Llanarth Court Psychiatric Hospital, NR Raglan, Gwent, South Wales,
for Partnerships in Care LTD:

Major redevelopment of former 75 acre former
school site with 17th Century Grade II* Listed Mansion and associated
buildings to form new 67 bed medium secure psychiatric hospital.
Listed Building consent was obtained for demolition
of existing modern buildings in the grounds and for the construction
of a new ward building.
Listed Building consent was obtained for the
conversion of a Victorian Wing within within the mansion to a 12
bed discharge ward.
Listed Building consent was obtained for internal
alterations within the Grade II * mansion building to form staff
administrative offices , kitchen and dining facilities.
Listed Building consent was obtained in 1994
for the construction of a new car park within the curtilage of the
listed building.
Richard Lyon was appointed as architect for the
scheme by the healthcare client, but following receipt of the planning
consents was novated through to a Design and Build Contractor for
the construction.
Richard Lyon handled all planning matters arising.

1985-95, Ascension
Church, Custom House, London E16 for the Vicar and The Parochial
Church Council:

Plans, reports, proposals and implementation
for the major re- ordering of a non-listed Victorian Church in the
London Borough of Newham.
The scheme was funded by The Church of England
City Church Fund, the local church family and other organisations
including Felsted School Mission Council and charitable bodies.

1985-90,
The Grange Nursing Home, Bottisham, Cambridgeshire for Baronrealm
LTD:

Phased major redevelopment of nursing home site,
around Grade II listed building, on edge of the village conservation
area but beyond the village development boundary. The original developer
client wished to build a mixed health care development using American
and Scandinavian health care methods.
Outline consent was obtained by Richard Lyon
and Associates for major expansion to up to 120 rooms in 1985.
Detail Planning and Listed Building consents
were obtained for Phase 1, a two storey, 30 room single aspect extension,
and internal alterations to existing building. This was built in
1987, at a contract cost of circa £ 420 K.
Detail Planning consent was obtained for the
Phase 2 Day Care and Rehabilitation Centre. This building included
a hydrotherapy pool, ADL kitchen area, ADL flat, speech therapy
rooms, hairdressing salon, staff creche, physiotherapy area and
nurses hostel. This was built in 1988 at a cost of circa £ 515 K.
Phase 3 major demolition of outbuildings and
creation of new two storey central kitchen and dining facility for
the enlarged nursing home. This was built in 1988 at a cost of circa
£ 375 K.
Detail Planning Consent for Phase 4/5 a 50 room
patient care unit, IVF Centre, and 19 Close Care Suites in the curtilage
of the listed Building was obtained. These were built in 1988-9
at a cost of £ 3.1 million.
Listed Building Consent for minor internal alterations
within the existing Listed Building to form minor Operating Suite
was obtained and implemented at a cost of circa £ 45K.
The work included upgrading of infrastructure
to the site including pumped drainage, and increased gas and electrical
supplies.
Total contract value all phases £ 5.2 million.
The home continued to be run as one of the first
dual registered homes whilst the phased construction work took place
around, rising from registration of some 18 beds in the existing
building, to a final total registration of close to 100 beds. The
close care suites were self-contained flatlets with their own kitchens
and bathrooms, and were linked to the home by a nurse call system.

Area and some are Grade II Listed.
Advice on dilapidations, repairs, tenants lease
obligations, approving tenants alteration proposals.
Acting as Adjoining Owners Surveyor, under the
Party Wall Act 1996, for Grade II Listed Property as affected by
Ely Central Area Redevelopment in 1998-9.

Phased restoration and extensions to row of 16th
Century Grade II Listed thatched timber frame cottages in a village
conservation area.

Major redevelopment of a corner site to form
one floor of offices and four floors of student accommodation within
central Cambridge Conservation Area . The building received an RIBA
Award in 1984.

1978, Modernisation of
The Porters Lodge, for the Master and Fellows of Jesus College, Cambridge*:
This project was for the refurbishment and internal
redesign of the Porters Lodge located adjacent to the main gate
to the college and involved work within the 15th Century parts of
Grade 1 Listed Buildings.
A small but complex project needing a high standard
of workmanship and critical programming to enable minimal disruption
to the College's routine activities. Normal portering operations
were temporarily relocated to a Portacabin for the duration of the
building contract.

1977,
Grasmere Gardens Flats, Carlyle Road, Cambridge for the Granta Housing
Society LTD*:

A scheme for 57 new flats, and for 12 flats converted
from existing Victorian terrace houses, on a site that was formerly
occupied by the light industrial premises of the Cambridge Scientific
Instrument Company. The scheme was funded by the Housing Corporation
to yardstick budgets.

Conversion of 17th Century Timber Frame Grade
II Listed Building into Offices for a travel agency.

1974,
Queensway Flats, Trumpington Road, Cambridge for the Granta Housing
Society LTD*:

A scheme for 79 new flats, the first project
for the Housing Society in two three storey blocks, on a prominent
site on the entry to Cambridge on Trumpington Road. The scheme was
funded by the Housing Corporation to yardstick budgets.
After completion the project won a DOE Good Housing
Award. Richard Lyon was the job architect for the project from RIBA
workstages D onwards and was responsible to the Partner in Charge.

Conversion of basement premises into a Wine Bar,
within a Listed Building formed within a series of meandering connected
and vaulted basements below shops and offices.
